Wine EnthusiastEnormously rich in cr?me de cassis, cherry pie and cocoa flavors, which many Cabs have these days. But what?s so special is the tannic structure, which is world class, and could only come from a premier Napa vineyard. This is an amazingly delicious wine, a joy to drink, but it?s best enjoyed now and for a year or three, to appreciate its youthful opulence.

Wine AdvocateThe chunky, rustic 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon possesses aggressive tannin in its big, corpulent personality. It should drink well for a decade. Shafer Vineyards, one of the most impeccably run wineries in the world, is a wonderful family operation that deserves all the success they have earned.

Wine SpectatorIntense and concentrated at its best, with a tightly wound band of earthy currant, anise, cedar and sage. Picks up a spice note and then mouthcoating tannins on the finish. A controversial wine because of bottle variation. Other samples were quite leathery. Best from 2008 through 2013.
