Masi Amarone della Valpolicalla Classico Costasera 2003
|Appellation||Amarone della Valpolicella|
Wine EnthusiastThis is a solid, steady wine that deftly delivers perfectly measured doses of cherry, plum, black currant, brown sugar, chocolate dust and almond nut. Fruit flavors are integrated seamlessly and come on the heels of the wine's solid structure. Drink it with crispy pork roast or pasta with a meat reduction sauce.
Wine SpectatorThere's a slight raisiny tinge to the fruit, with cardamom, fresh oak and just a whiff of black truffle at the start. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a clean, mineral finish. The refined texture adds a touch of finesse. Better than previously reviewed. Best after 2008. 32,915 cases made.
Wine AdvocateThe 2003 Amarone Classico Costasera presents a brooding nose along with notes of tobacco, earthiness, smoke and dark fruit that flow from the glass. It offers excellent length on the palate although the tannins could use a little more polish. This full-bodied rustic Amarone should drink well over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2013.
